Truly comprehensive and skilled restorative dentistry for every smile and need

Quality restorative dentistry is no illusion at Mirage Family Dentistry. When we cannot restore teeth with oral hygiene modifications or recommendations for oral care products alone, dental restorations may be on the horizon. Our dentist, Dr. Rajni Kapoor, has options for restorative dental care to address each patient’s unique needs, preferences, and goals. These options range from “conventional” bridges and dentures to modern tooth replacements with dental implants. Furthermore, we are able to offer so many services due to Dr. Kapoor’s investment in onsite capabilities – training and the technologies to support our team in Yorktown, Virginia.

Additionally, Dr. Kapoor can assess and address problems with essential support structures, like gums or jaw joints (TMJs).

Preserving teeth

All teeth should generally be preserved except for “wisdom teeth,” which are not necessary for healthy function. Dr. Kapoor accomplishes this with dental restorations, such as tooth-colored dental fillings and dental crowns made from metals, ceramics, or a combination of metal/porcelain. For a tooth that has sustained deep decay or other forms of severe damage to the innermost tooth structure, Dr. Kapoor painlessly “cleans” the inside of the tooth. Root Canal Therapy (RCT) may be the only way to preserve a badly damaged tooth.

Replacing teeth

Not all teeth can be rescued with RCT. In these cases, Dr. Kapoor may recommend the removal of the tooth followed by its prompt replacement. Options to replace a single or a few teeth include dental bridges. A bridge includes at least one replacement tooth and two dental crowns. The bridge is held up by the crowned teeth, which serve as “anchors” to support the prosthetic tooth. A partial denture may be appropriate to replace several teeth. The prosthetic gums and teeth are supported in the jaw by clasps or other specialized attachments that connect to the remaining teeth. Complete dentures replace all of the teeth in the upper and lower jaws. The denture should conform precisely to the contours of the mouth to ensure the utmost stability and precise fit.

Notably, Dr. Kapoor has undergone the training to offer all aspects of the implant process. Other dentists can only restore the implant with a crown, bridge, or denture. Dr. Kapoor can do that, as well as precisely plan treatment and surgically position each implant in the jawbone. Once the implants have successfully healed and are a part of the surrounding bone in the jaws, she can restore them with the prosthetic tooth structure of choice!

Accounting for your whole mouth

We appreciate that oral health transcends the aesthetics and function of the tooth structure! In turn, Dr. Kapoor partners with patients to identify and intervene with any problems associated with the condition and the appearance of the supportive gums, muscles, jaw joints, and bone. These services range from gingival therapies for gum disease and gum recontouring to oral appliance therapy to treat everything from the effects of bruxism (teeth grinding) to Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMDs).

A sting when you drink cold or sweet beverages. Pink in the sink. These and other changes may be indicative of oral problems, which require prompt treatment. Catching problems early avoids damage and the need for more extensive restorative treatments.
